From this week’s sermon:

There are so many subtle ways in which we try to put bonds on ourselves or others and give up the freedom we have in Christ. We try to replace the freedom we have in Christ with religious practices and requirements. How often do we feel inadequate or make others feel inadequate? Is that guy really a Christian if he drinks beer with his buddies on Saturday nights? Is that woman really a Christian if she doesn’t dress up for worship on Sunday?

To learn more about how Christ has set us free, read Pastor Kip’s Sermon “Called to Freedom”

Year of the Bible Blog
From this week’s guest blogger Lynda Seehusen:  (In Luke) Jesus drives an evil spirit out of a man.  Interesting, isn’t it, that the evil spirit says, “I know who you are—the Holy One of God” and other demons he later casts out of people say to him, “You are the Son of God!”  How true it is that even the demons believe in God – and tremble (James 2:19), it’s what we do with that knowledge that matters.

Next week’s guest blogger is Rev. Susan Krummel.

Year of the Bible Answers:

1.     The king said to me, "What is it you want?" Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king. (Nehemiah 2:4-5a)

2.     From that day on, half of my men did the work, while the other half were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armor. The officers posted themselves behind all the people of Judah who were building the wall. Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other, and each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked. (Nehemiah 4:16)

3.   When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven”. The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, "Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?" (Luke 5:20-22)

4.   Jesus asked "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? (Luke 6:42)

5.     He (Jesus) replied, "My mother and brothers are those who hear God's word and put it into practice." (Luke 8:21)
