From this week’s sermon:
What are
the things that people want? We want power, we want security, we want
happiness, and we want recognition and respect. These are the things that mark success,
aren’t they?...Oddly enough, Jesus says that we are
blessed if we don’t have those things and woe to us if we do. So what’s up with
this?

make us successful, click on the link to Pastor Kip’s sermon “Blessings and

Year of the Bible Blog
From this week’s
guest blogger Rev. Susan Krummel: Ah,
now we come to the reason that I volunteered for this week! Esther. What a
great story! But, do you know something odd about it? Once you have read the
whole book, you may have noticed this. The name of God does not appear anywhere
in the book. God is not even really referred to at any point. Instead, this is
a story about a woman who saves her people. Esther is in a long line of women
who use the power they had in that society to save the
day.

Vashti is never again to enter the presence of
King Xerxes. Also let the king give
her royal position to someone else who is better than she. (Esther
1:19b)
2.
"All the king's officials and the
people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the
king in the inner court without being summoned the king has but one law: that he be put to death. The only
exception to this is for the king to extend
the gold scepter to him and spare his life. (Esther 4:11)
3.
The king said to Esther, “Even up to half the kingdom, it will be granted.
4.
When Jesus was asked “Who is my neighbor?”,
he responded by telling a parable about a Samaritan
